PRETTY WEDDING AT KILCONQUHAR NOAKES—NICHOLSON. Considerable public interest was shown in the wedding in the picturesque church of Kilconquhar, of Miss Jessie Rodger Nicholson, only daughter of Mr George Nicholson, Balcarres estate, and Mr Alfred Noakes, Glasgow. The bride, given away by her father, came up the aisle to the strains of the Lohengrin Bridal March, played by Mrs White, organist, and looked winsome in her effectively simple wedding dress of honey coloured crepe romaine, with foundation of the same material. The front opened on a panel of ivory hand-worked lace, and the low waist line was indicated by a swathed girdle finished with a lover's knot in front. The bridal veil, lent by Mrs Noakes, was silk stitched, and was held in place by tiny ear knots of orange blossom and white heather. Her bouquet was composed of Dorothy Perkins roses, intermingled with white. For ornament she wore an amber necklace, the bridegroom's gift. For bridesmaid she had Miss Robertson, Gaultry, who was gowned in love-in-the-mist blue marocain, with vestee of lace, shaded with smoke georgette. Her pendant was gifted by the bridegroom. Her bouquet consisted of blue love-in-the-mist, and she wore a sweet Juliet cap of silver lace, with blue and gold medallions. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Ernest Noakes, and the ceremony was performed by Rev. R.S. Armstrong, Kilconquhar church. Among those present were the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres accompanied by the Ladies Margaret and Anne Lindsay. Lady Margaret wore a clematis mauve hat with beige suiting, edged in fitch, and Lady Anne favoured a hat of deep rose shade, velvet banded, a straight black satin coat, and ermine tie. Reception in Marquee. A reception was held in a marquee on Balcarres grounds, and the wedding guests, numbering between 40 and 50, were received by Mrs Noakes, the bridegroom's mother, and Mrs Clacher, Strathkiness. Mrs Noakes favoured a tunique dress of slate grey alpaca, with a shaded braid for trimming. Her black satin hat carried a black and white ostrich boa. Mrs Clacher was attired in a two-piece suit of black Ottoman and black marocain hat with aigrette. Miss Noakes (bridegroom's sister) favoured a pretty floral voile worked out in helio and petunia under a beige repp coat. This was worn with a helio boucle hat, banded in a deeper tone. Miss Mary Noakes (New York) came in an ensemble of apple green. The distinctive features were the plisse skirt and the ornamental horseshoe trimming. Her hat of fancy straw was to tone. Mrs MacPherson (Barrhead), another sister, wore beige repp with golden poppies in her hat of fancy straw. Miss Nellie MacPherson had a girlish frock of tussore, with Chartreuse green coat and a shady hat of green and pink. Mrs Rodger, Colinsburgh (cousin), was wearing a grey and helio floral voile, with small hat, aigrette trimmed. Mrs Paterson, Carskardo, favoured a periwinkle blue frock, with blue and silver hat; and Mrs Webster wore an elegant toilette of new blue, made with Cavalier cape, and collared in blue and grey. Her broad brimmed velvet hat to tone showed silver embroidery. Mrs Noakes' going-away dress was a two-piece suit of Parma repp, relieved by champagne crepe, worn with a Parma yeddo straw hat piped with brown and violet ribbon, and a blended fox fur. Many beautiful wedding gifts were received. Among these were a Queen Anne silver tea service from the Earl and Countess of Crawford, a silver inkstand from the sons and daughters (including Lady Balneil), a cutlery canteen from Mr MacGarva (factor of Balcarres) and Mrs MacGarva, and silver table spoons from Masters William and John MacGarva. |
