THE LATE MRS. BINT. The interment of the late Mrs. Bint, of West-avenue, took place at the Nottingham-road Cemetery. The deceased lady was the widow of the later Mr. John Bint, who, for 37 years, was churchwarden at St. Anne's. For 39 years she was headmistress of St. Anne's girls' school, retiring in 1921, and up to the time of her death took great interest in the affairs of the church. The body, enclosed in a polished oak coffin, was placed in the church overnight and watched by members of the congregation. At 7.30 a.m. there was a Requiem Mass, at which the Rev. A.T. Stephens vicar officiated. The funeral service at 11 a.m. was choral, the hymn "On the Resurrection Morning" being sung. The organist, Mr. A. Timms, feelingly rendered the Dead March in "Saul". Many friends of the deceased lady were present in church to pay a last token of respect. The mourners were Mr. F. Bint, Miss L. Bint, Mr. and Mrs. A. Frith, Mr. and Mrs. Rickett. Floral tributes were sent by the following Mr. and Miss Bint (son and daughter), Mrs. Plant (sister), Mrs. Newth (sister) [and others listed.] The coffin, which was surmounted by a full sized Calvary Cross, bore the inscription: "Ellen Bint, at rest September 24th, 1924, aged 66 years." All arrangements were in the hands of the Derby and District Funeral Co., Limited. |

FUNERAL OF MISS POLLARD.—On Wednesday last, the mortal remains of Miss Emma Pollard, the daughter of the respected Valley postmaster, was interred at the Parish Churchyard, in the presence of a large number of persons. The deceased was stricken with that dire disease, consumption, and in spite of all that could be done for her she succumbed after an illness extending over a period of two years. Miss Emma Pollard acted as assistant to her father, and in that capacity earned the good opinion of all who knew her. As a last tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased nearly all the shops in the Valley were closed in the afternoon, thus enabling assistants and others to attend the funeral. The coffin was covered with beautiful wreaths of flowers, and appropriate hymns for the occasion were sung by the choir of the Parish Church. We were forcibly reminded of Blair's beautiful lines on Death whilst watching the funeral cortege leave the house of the deceased.

WELL DONE RAMSGATE! Red Cross Benefits by Whist. A very successful and pleasant afternoon was spent on Thursday in the beautifully laid-out garden at "West beech," High street, Ramsgate (by the courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Francis R. Newth), when a whist drive took place in aid of the funds of the Red Cross. Twenty-five tables were in play and the appreciable sum of £20 10s. was realised by the combined efforts of congenial team work under the capable organiser, Mrs. M. Gummer, W.V.S. The company included Lady Carson (who distributed the prizes), and the Mayoress of Ramsgate (Mrs. A. B. C. Kempe). All expenses for the event were defrayed free of charge—the entire proceeds, therefore, were handed to the Red Cross Association. [ . . . ] |
