31, Leake Street, North Perth, W. Australia July 20th 1917. Officer in Charge, Base Records— Dear Sir— Will you kindly let me know if you have my son's name, Private Frank D. Pollard No. 8308 (previously report missing) among the Prisoners of War? & please send particulars of same. About 3 weeks ago we received a cable from his uncle in London, saying he was a prisoner Germany When he was "missing" his name was omitted from the W.A. papers lists—although friends in Victoria wrote saying they saw the name in the Melbourne papers & I read the name myself in those papers. I am just thinking that his name may be omitted again. It makes it very awkward for me, as his allotment was specially left for us to pay liabilities in connection with the house. He gave up a good position as a Master in the Modern School, receiving £200. & the last 2 years, that he has been serving in the A.I.F. he would have had considerably more as he had just gained his B. Sc. Degree. I suppose you know best, but I think it a bit strange that his name has not been sent on. His father is only earning a small wage & we must send him parcels & also subscriptions to the British Red Cross. My son was missing April 16th, we received the notice, May 12th. It all seems so long between. Thanking you in anticipation. Yours faithfully A. Pollard |
