BANKRUPTCY THROUGH AN ACCIDENT. At the Bradford County Court on Wednesday, Arthur Whitworth Pollard, formerly of 42, The Green, Ossett, and carrying on business at the same address as a licensed grocer, and now residing at 2, Norwood Buildings, Bradford Road, Shipley, was examined in bankruptcy. In reply to the Official Receiver, he stated that his liabilities were £90 12s. 3d., and his assets £13, leaving a deficiency of £77 12s. 3d. The business at Ossett had been in the family for 36 years. Trade fell off through his brother meeting with an accident, and the business was really insolvent when he (the debtor) took it, but he had to support his brothers and sisters and he had hoped to pull it round and make it successful again. After two years' trading, however, he was forced to call a meeting of creditors, and in 1903 he paid a composition of 4s. in the pound to those who would accept. But others wanted to be paid in full, and County Court proceedings were taken by some of them. The business had never been solvent since, and he had eventually sold it in May last. The examination was closed. |
