Mr. Richard Thorne.

Another old identity of the Darlington Point district in the person of Mr. Richard Thorne died on 26th April, his death coming suddenly. A native of Maryborough, Victoria, Mr. Thorne went to Darlington Point 60 years ago, and since then had been employed on a number of stations in the district. Although of a retiring disposition, he was widely known. Whenever he was able he took an active part in the life of the community. When speaking of the early days of the village, Mr Thorne was very interesting, as many of the old landmarks he knew in the early days have long since disappeared. After a brief service in the Church of England, which a number of friends attended, the remains were laid to rest in the nearby cemetery, the Rev. Dobbinson officiating. Many floral tributes were brought along by friends, Mrs. Thorne predeceased him some years ago. A daughter (Mrs. F. Pye, of Westmead) survives him.
