MARRIAGE OF MISS VIOLET BINNS

A marriage of considerable interest was solemnised at St. Peter's Church, Stockton-on-Tees, on Tuesday, between Mr. Thomas Howcroft Riley, only son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Walter Riley, and Miss Violet M. Binns, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred H. Binns, of Tunbridge Wells, formerly of Ingleby Close, near Stockton-on-Tees, and of Sunderland.

The service was choral, the officiating clergy being the Rev. J. McGill (Vicar of St. Peter's). The hymns sung were "How welcome was the call" and "O Perfect Love" and "Praise my soul, the King of Heaven." The Psalm was "God be merciful unto us and bless us." Mr. Bragg was at the organ and played voluntaries, including the Bridal March ("Lohengrin") and the Wedding March (Mendelssohn). The Church was beautifully decorated with palms and daffodils.

The bride was given away by her father, and wore a lovely deep cream lace gown, embroidered in gold, with the new high neckline, and the skirt cut with a full circular train, a tulle veil to tone, and orange blossom coronet. She carried a bouquet of cream roses and white heather and wore a pearl necklace, the gift of the bridegroom.

The bride's present to the bridegroom was a gold watch. The bridesmaids were Miss Margaret Binns (sister of the bride), Miss Doreen Crosthwaite and Miss Jean Pearson (cousin of the bridegroom). Their dresses were of net and taffeta in a lovely shade of leaf green, made in an old-world picture style and trimmed with shaded green flowers. Wreaths of green taffeta leaves were worn as a head-dress. They carried Victorian posies of violets and primroses. The bridegroom's gift to the bridesmaids were pearl and platinum necklaces. Mr. Tom Nattrass was best man.

A reception was afterwards held by the bride's parents and attended by a large assembly of relatives and friends. The bride's going-away dress was green, with hat to tone, and a beautiful fur coat, the gift of her father.
