| Muriel, her daughter, writing in 1987, tells of
her mother's migration: Mum came to South Africa with friends, she had not been well and her folk thought the change and a holiday would be good for her. She stayed in Durban for a while, then decided to go into the country and stay in a Hotel at Drummond on the mainline between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. My Dad was then stationmaster at Drummond having lost his [first] wife in England. . . . Who should help her out of the train on arrival but Dad: he probably fell in love with Mum then as she was a lovely looking girl and I imagine he paid her a lot of attention. However, she returned to Australia at that time. |
