Prior to settling at Norman's Well, Mr and Mrs James Smith had various business interests, extending from the Geraldton area to Carnarvon and Roebourne. This would probably have been in the 1896 days or even earlier. A trip to Carnarvon in those days with a buggy and horses occupied almost two weeks.
