WEDDING AT NEWCASTLE. Corder—Kent. On Wednesday, the wedding of Miss Eileen Corder, only daughter of Mr Walter S. Corder of North Shields and Mr Stuart Burns Kent, eldest son of Mr P.B. Kent of Darlington was solemnised at St. Nicholas Cathedral, Newcastle. The ceremony took place in the presence of a large congregation which included numerous friends of the bride and bridegroom. The service was fully choral, and the musical features were particularly attractive, the Cathedral organist (Mr Ellis) playing in addition to the usual wedding marches, Elgar's "Chanson de Nuit," and the largo from Dvorak's new world symphony. The nuptial ceremony was performed by the Rev. Canon Peacock, of Gloucester Cathedral, assisted by the Rev. R.E. Holmes, vicar of Tynemouth. Mr Herbert B. Kent, brother of the bridegroom acted as best man. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a pretty gown of satin beaute ivory, with a train hanging from the shoulders lined with pink georgette. She wore a beautiful old family veil of Brussels net and Honiton lace, and carried a choice bouquet of lilies of the valley, pink carnations and white heather. She also wore a diamond and sapphire ring, which together with the bouquet was the gift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids were Miss Potter, of Leeds, Miss Rachel Corder, cousin of the bride, and Miss Laura Muir, of Wylam. They were prettily gowned in primrose crepe de chene with white georgette fichus, and wore black tulle hats. Each carried a lovely bouquet of red carnations and wore a gold brooch, the gifts of the bridegroom. The mother of the bride was attired in a gown of grey charmeuse and carried a sheaf of red roses, and the sister of the bridegroom, Mrs Todd, of Darlington, was dressed in a gown of black and white charmeuse and carried a sheaf of white carnations. After the ceremony a reception was given by the bride's parents in the Jesmond Dene Banqueting Hall. The new wedded couple left later in the day for North Wales, where the honeymoon will be spent. The bride's travelling dress consisted of a navy blue tricotine costume, and a navy blue hat with white osprey. Mr and Mrs Kent were the recipients of a large number of beautiful wedding gifts. |
