Funeral of Mr J.W. Beamish.

The funeral of Mr J.W. Beamish took place on Friday afternoon, the body being laid to rest in the burial ground attached to the Friends' Meeting House in Friars-street. The coffin was conveyed from Belchamp St. Paul in an open car, and arrived at the chapel a little later than the time fixed for the interment, 3.30, where it was awaited by Mr. A. Beamish, deceased's son, and a number of general mourners, including Miss Goody (Belchamp), Mr A.J. Grimwade (Barclay's Bank), Mr G. Stafford Allen, Mr R. Warner, Mr G.P. Weybrew, Mr J.G. Payn, Mr E.I, and the Misses Wright, Mr Edward Doubleday (Coggeshall), Mr Geo. Fox (Colchester), Rev. J.J. Jones, Messrs B. Hills, J.S. Bailey, J. Rose, C. Cundy, J. Read, F.P. Abrey, Miss Woolby, Miss E. Hills, Miss Brown, Mrs Outing, Miss King, Miss Crisp, Mrs Deeks, Mrs J. Williams, and others. The coffin, on which were three wreaths bearing inscriptions of affection and esteem, one from the relatives, another from Mr A.J. Grimwade, and the third from Miss Goody, the Limes, Belchamp, was taken direct to the grave, where, the mourners having taken their stations around, after a brief waiting in silence, Mr G. Stafford Allen recited the sentences, beginning "Now is Christ risen from the dead," following which Mr Fox offered prayer. The body having been lowered to its last resting place, Mr Allen invited all present to take part in the service in the chapel. Here miss Goody delivered a touching and impressive address, alluding to the painful affliction borne with Christian fortitude by their deceased brother during the last six weeks. Mr Fox added a few words, and Mr Stafford Allen said they could fittingly end with a note of joy. Of their deceased friend it could be said "Well done, good and faithful servant." The bright sunshine streaming down on them at the graveside was symbolical of the future—of the life of brightness into which the departed had gone. One of Mr Beamish's favourite hymns, "Rock of Ages," was sung, Mr T. Elliston accompanying on the harmonium. He also was responsible for the funeral arrangements.
