The Penfold family of Slinfold
Elizabeth Penfold may have been born about 1756, but was baptised on the 21st February 1765, at Slinfold, Sussex.1
She married (J2) Richard Bourn on the 8th May 1781, at Slinfold parish church, by licence. Their children were: James (1783–1789), Sarah (1785–1861), Ann (1787–1787) Richard (1788–1810), and (J1) Susanna (cal 1791–1856). All were probably born at Warnham, and the births of most were registered at Horsham General Baptist church.2
It was probably this Elizabeth Bourn, of Warnham, who died on the 28th May 1811, and was buried at Horsham General Baptist church on the 31st May.3
Elizabeth Penfold was the daughter of (J8) Henry and (J9) Elizabeth Penfold.4

Henry Penfold was born around 1704/1707.1
On the 26th April 1742, a labourer of Slingfold, Surrey, he was party to a marriage bond and allegation, licensing him to marry Joan Ireland (cal 1705 – ?) at Chiddenfold, Thirsley, or Witley, Surrey. Both of Slingfold, Sussex, they married at St Mary's, Chiddingfold, on the 28th April 1742.2
Joan, his first wife, died before 1754. On the 26th September 1754, described as a yeoman of Slinfold, he married (J9) Elizabeth Furlonger at Wisborough Green, Sussex, by licence from the Archdeaconry of Chichester. Their only known child was (J7) Elizabeth (1756–1811), baptised at Slinfold.3
In the last decade of the eighteenth century there was a peruke maker of this name living in South Street, Horsham, but it seems likely that this may have been a son or nephew of the same name.4
Henry Penfold probably died before the 8th January 1798.5

Elizabeth Furlonger was born around 1712 to 1714.1
On the 26th September 1754, a spinster of Wisborough Green, she married (J8) Henry Penfold there, by licence from the Archdeaconry of Chichester. Their only known child was (J7) Elizabeth (1756–1811), baptised at Slinfold.2
It was probably this Elizabeth Penfold, a widow of Slinfold, who died on the 8th January 1798 and was buried on the 12th January at Horsham General Baptist church.3
1 TNA: PRO RG 4/2729; Surrey Marriage Index; FamilySearch has the baptism of a Betty Furlonger, daughter of William Furlonger, at Rudgwick, Sussex, on 12 April 1713, and that of an Elizabeth Furlonger, daughter of John and Elizabeth Furlonger, at Billingshurst, Sussex, on 9 December 1712. The former is, however, recorded as marrying Samuel Francis in 1737, at Dunsfold, Surrey, so the Billingshurst entry seems more likely.
