1886-12-06 | gave evidence at an inquest into a death from a
gas explosion: The first witness called was Mr. John Edgar Pilkington, acting house surgeon at the Salford Royal Hospital, who said the deceased was brought to that institution on the afternoon of Monday last, suffering from a compound fracture of the left leg, a transverse and vertical fracture into the knee-joint of the same leg, and compound fracture and dislocation of the bones of the right leg. After consultation, the left leg was amputated at the knee-joint, and the bones of the right leg were re-sected. The woman died on Tuesday afternoon from loss of blood and consequent exhaustion. Replying to Mr. Holmes, witness said the loss of blood from which deceased died resulted from the injuries she had received. He did not think she lost an ounce of blood during the operation at the hospital. |
