A STREET PURCHASE

Man Charged With Selling Water AS Whisky.

Thomas Firth (29), of no fixed abode, was remanded for eight days at Darlington yesterday charged with false pretences by selling coloured water as whisky and rum.

It was alleged that Firth approached Cecil Hayllar, of Barron-street, in the Market-place, and asked him if he wanted to purchase a bottle of White Label whisky and a bottle of Jamaica rum. Hayllar gave him 13s 6d for the two bottles, which, when opened, were found to contain coloured water.
