At Havant Police Court, yesterday (Thursday), before Admiral Norcock, Henry James Lee, labourer, native of Emsworth, was charged with feloniously stealing £1, a coat, and cape, the property of William Treagust, Bedhampton Park Farm, value 30s., on July 30th.Edith Treagust, wife of complainant; William George Hayling, North Street, Havant; William Young, in the employ of the Portsmouth Waterworks Co.; and Inspector Cox, gave evidence.In answer to the last witness prisoner denied he had a sovereign, and said he would like to see the colour of one. He was searched, and in the lining of his coat was found 6s. 11d. In reply to the charge the man said, "All right old man."The prisoner was sent for trial. |
