Children of Frederick and Elizabeth Baggs

WEDDING.—A marriage was solemnized on Saturday between Frederick William Baggs, a commercial traveller, and pensioner R.N., of 22, High Street, Portland, and Ada Emma Baggs, of Rose Cottage, Denmead. The parties are cousins, and the ceremony was performed by the Vicar. Many witnessed the ceremony. The organ was played by Miss Green. The bride's dress was of cream, trimmed with Nun's veiling, in which she looked charming. The bridesmaids—Miss Edie Foster and Miss May Tee—were in serge costumes.

Filling Up the Gaps.

"By June, 1915, out a nominal strength of 150 members, at least 130 officers, N.C.O.s and men were on active service. Strenuous efforts had, therefore, to be made during the spring and summer of 1915 to introduce and train new units to fill up, as far as possible, these gaps. To Superintendent H. E. Baggs (at that time Divisional Superintendent of D Division), to Dr. A. Lewis Husband (afterwards captain, R.A.M.C.), and to the few remaining N.C.O.’s belongs the honour and credit for the success of this effort. How great a success, the work afterwards undertaken and accomplished by these new units will show.

"When it became apparent that the war would be a long drawn out struggle, it was decided to enroll the efficient ambulance men of the Sheffield Corps into two Voluntary Aid Detachments; accordingly V.A.D.s No. 47 and No. 49 West Riding were formed and sanctioned by the War Office: Ambulance Officer Alfred E. Taylor and Superintendent H. E. Baggs being appointed respective commandants.

"These detachments rendered very valuable service, and in conjunction with other organisations they carried out an enormous amount of convoy and hospital work. In wounded convoys alone, over 66,000 cases were handled. These convoys arrived at all hours, but more often than not when the majority of our readers were comfortably asleep in their beds. Over 400 convoys arrived in Sheffield during the war. and some of the ambulance men never missed a single convoy. This will give some idea of the enormous amount of voluntary service rendered these men, running as it does into thousands of hours.

"When, in the anxious days of April, 1918, it became known that the R.A.M.C. orderlies at the Base Hospital had been transferred to more active and dangerous fields of service, many members of the Voluntary Aid Detachments, their own free-will, did duty at the Base Hospital after they had finished their ordinary day’s work, going on duty at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day.["]

FUNERAL OF SHEFFIELD ROTARIAN

The funeral took place at Dore, Sheffield, on Saturday of Mr. Henry Edmund Baggs, of Rush Garth, Totley Rise, Sheffield, a founder of the Sheffield Rotary Club and for some years churchwarden at Dore Church. He was joint managing director of Messrs. Thomas Andrews and Co., Ltd.

The Rev. A.G. Saxelby-Kemp, vicar of Dore, conducted the service.

The family mourners were: Mrs. L. Baggs (widow), Miss Edith Baggs, Miss Grace Baggs, Miss Margaret Baggs (daughters), Mr. C.J. Baggs (brother), Mr. C.H. Baggs (nephew).

Representing Messrs. Thomas Andrews and Co., Ltd., were [listed].
