It appeared at the time the alleged robbery took place the defendants and the complainant were all drunk together. It was a case of suspicion and nothing more. The defendants were discharged.

1858-05-28 at Kingsclere Petty Sessions:

KILLING A PHEASANT.—George Baggs, of Hannington, pleaded guilty to a charge of using a gun, and killing a pheasant, at Kingsclere, on the 10th of May. Henry Savery, woodman to the Duke of Wellington, at Hannington, stated that defendant was working in a coppice at Kingsclere, where the bird was shot early in the morning, but could not be found then by witness. He however watched the defendant home from work in the evening, when he found the pheasant and a gun in defendant's donkey car, and having accused him of shooting the bird, he at once admitted doing so. He was convicted in 2l. including costs, or three weeks' imprisonment. The money was paid.

1893-02-03 at Kingsclere Petty Sessions:

George Baggs, of Hannington, for whom Mr. Chandler appeared, was summoned for trespassing in search of game on the 5th January. P.C. Conyers Open said he was in the main road leading from White-lane to Ibworth, and met the defendant about 5.30 p.m. Witness stopped him and asked him where he had been, He said "Up in Free Wood." Witness searched him, and found on him a partridge and a wire, and two other wires were in his waistcoat pocket. He said he hoped witness would not make a bother about the bird. Mr. Chandler, addressing the Bench, said he had been instructed that defendant, with his two sons, had been at work, and the sons, on their way to work in the morning, found and picked up the bird, which was covered with hoar frost, by the side of the highway, and on reaching their work put the bird in their father's coat, which was hanging up, and really the defendant did not know the bird was in his pocket. He called the sons, Daniel and Wyndham, who supported the statement. Nothing previously being recorded against defendant the Bench said they were not quite satisfied there was an offence, and dismissed the case.
