MRS. R.A. MATHER.Many of the city shops had the shutters partially up on Saturday out of respect to the memory of the widow of the late Mr. Robert Andrew Mather, who died at her late residence, Fernside, Elizabeth-street, early on Saturday morning, aged 72. The deceased was born in England in 1820, and arrived in the colony when 10 years of age with her father, Mr. Theophilus Pollard, and was married to the late Robert Andrew Mather in Sydney about 1841, and has since resided in Tasmania. Mrs. Mather lived a quiet and unobtrusive life, rendering much help and consolation wherever needed, and full of charitable deeds, of which most frequently none knew beyond herself and the grateful recipients. |
